The Hawthorne’s interior and exterior common areas are being brought to life by acclaimed Rottet Studio’s founding principal Lauren Rottet – one of the world’s most celebrated interior architects who has earned awards, publications, lectures, juries and honors. As the first woman in history to be elevated to Fellow status by both the American Institute of Architects and International Interior Design Association, Ms. Rottet also holds the coveted titles of Interior Design Magazine Hall of Fame and Interiors magazine (now Contract magazine) Designer of the Year. Based in Houston, the firm has offices in Los Angeles, New York, and a presence in Shanghai.
Ms. Rottet and her team are seamlessly integrating The Hawthorne into Tanglewood with an evergreen approach giving the building a look and feel that will particularly resonate with longtime neighborhood dwellers. All told, Ms. Rottet’s distinct design approach reflects her commitment to improve the human experience through the built environment, and her evergreen vision for The Hawthorne will be no exception.
Kirksey Architecture — a Houston and Austin-based architecture firm, passionate about great architecture and all things sustainable.
As architects, designers, and planners, Kirksey believes it is their responsibility to design high-performing, healthy buildings that positively impact the people, environment, and communities they serve. They do this by creating facilities that are resource-efficient, site and community enhancing, and provide a healthy and enjoyable environment.
The Hawthorne, with its stately porte-cochère, will establish a gateway to the neighborhood. The building was designed to address the corner, maintain the maximum setback from the neighborhood and provide an extensive pool terrace with tree top views over Tanglewood. The façade is punctuated by large floor to ceiling windows and balcony terraces that occur at the corners and intersections. Rational fenestration treatments balance modern and traditional influences to gracefully order the building and give a sense of individual homes within.
